Local Green Job Websites
There is no one local website that captures all of the postings for jobs in sustainability. I suggest that you first check out many of the sites listed below to see which three have the postings most relevant to your goals. Then you can focus on regularly checking those three sites. Those with an asterisk generally have the largest number of job postings in sustainability. In addition to reviewing these general job sites, don’t forget to periodically check the websites of your favorite potential employers.
- *www.cnrg-portland.org. Subscribers to the CNRG Daily Digest receive daily e-mail notification of job openings, classes, events and other information related to community involvement and the nonprofit sector (including sustainability)
- www.cascadelink.org. CascadeLink represents an inter-jurisdictional effort to gather information, provide links to access points for citizen involvement, and to provide online access to citizens living in the Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA metropolitan region. The network specifically serves Clackamas, Multnomah, Clark, and Washington counties
- www.cascadiagbc.org/resources/cascadia-job-board. Pioneering innovative green building initiatives, Cascadia is the Pacific Northwest’s regional U.S. Green Building Council Chapter. All postings on this free Listserv are for green building-related jobs located within the Pacific Northwest.
- www.portlandonline.com/bps/. City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability. Click on the "News & Events" tab. This website is designed to be a clearinghouse for jobs, sustainability tours, citizen and stakeholder advisory groups, and sustainability classes.
- *portland.craigslist.org. Craiglist's Nonprofit and Creative job sections have a significant number of postings. Also try searching all jobs with terms like “sustainability,” “environment,” and “conservation.” Major weakness is that employer is often not listed.
- www.earthshare-oregon.org. Earth Share Oregon is a federation of nonprofit environmental organizations that promotes environmental education and charitable giving through workplace campaigns. There are no listings for paid jobs, but there is a link to information about volunteer opportunities.
- groups.yahoo.com/group/portlandgreendrinks. Portland’s chapter of Green Drinks meets monthly and sends out local job openings in sustainability.
- www.indeed.com. Indeed's job search engine gives you free access to employment opportunities from all of the major job posting sites (Monster.com, Jobdango.com, etc.) so you don’t have to go to each site individually.
- http://groundwire.org/about/jobs/environmental-jobs. Groundwire provides online services to companies focused on conservation and environmental protection in the Pacific Northwest. Their jobs page has links to more resources for green jobs in the area.
- *groups.yahoo.com/group/pnwJobSeekers.
